The monopoly of Western clothing brands is becoming a thing of the past, and the world of the fashion industry is also becoming multipolar, with Russian designers successfully occupying the niches vacated by foreign partners. This was announced on November 20 by Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko at the Commonwealth of Fashion forum in St. Petersburg.
Couturiers from Russia and all countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) presented their clothes and accessories in the historical interiors of the Tauride Palace.
"Of course, this is a very good platform for the subjects of the Russian Federation, for our regions. This field is so competitive in our country, and our designers are competitive, that they have quietly occupied the niches that were represented by foreign brands. Because what they're doing is closer, it's clearer, it's cheaper. It's stylish, it's fashionable, and that's why we're so actively supporting this trend," Matvienko said.
Parliamentarians, representatives of relevant ministries and departments took part in the discussion of fashion trends. On the sidelines of the forum, the Speaker of the Federation Council also discussed cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan in the humanitarian field with Oguljahan Atabayeva, Vice-President of the country's charitable foundation.
In September, one of the main topics of discussion at the BRICS+ Fashion Summit in Moscow was the search for a balance between openness to external players and protection of interests for national brands. Many Western brands that left Russia three years ago have expressed their desire to return. As Kirill Dmitriev, special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, noted, the government will not prevent their return, but gives priority to Russian business.
