A painting by Austrian artist Gustav Klimt "Portrait of Elizabeth Lederer" was sold at Sotheby's for $236.4 million, becoming the most expensive work of our time ever sold at auction. This was reported on November 18 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

"Klimt's painting was sold for a historic $236.4 million at the first Sotheby's auction in a new home in the Breuer building in New York, making it the most expensive work of modern art at auction in the world and the second most expensive work of art ever sold at auction," the material says.

It is noted that the auction organizers initially assumed that the painting would be sold for no more than $ 150 million. The previous record for Klimt's painting was set in 2023, when "The Lady with the Fan" was sold for $108.8 million.

"Portrait of Elizabeth Lederer", painted in 1914-1916, depicts a woman in a white dress, she was the daughter of one of the artist's main patrons, as well as wealthy patrons, complements "Газета.Ru ".

On October 25, a portrait of Dora Maar, Pablo Picasso's muse and lover, was sold at auction in Paris for $37 million. The work was written in July 1943 and a year later it ended up in a private collection, where it has been for more than 80 years.
