The US State Department has decided on the potential sale of Patriot air defense systems and related equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) — a possible deal estimated at $ 105 million. This was confirmed on November 18 by a statement published on the agency's website.
"The State Department has decided on a possible foreign military sale to the government of Ukraine of the Patriot air defense support system...> The estimated total cost is $105 million <...> The actual monetary value will be lower depending on the final requirements, budgetary authority, and signed purchase and sale agreements, if and when they are concluded," the text says.
It also notes that Kiev, as part of its cooperation with the American side on this issue, has requested the modernization of their existing equipment of the same model. In addition, their list included spare parts, "auxiliary equipment," accessories, and training for military personnel to interact with Patriot. It is assumed that the cost will also cover logistics issues.
A day earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced France's intention to provide his country with additional military assistance in the amount of 100 Rafale aircraft, missiles, aerial bombs and SAMP-T air defense systems. The declaration is given, as reported by the Ukrainian edition of Strana.ua," was approved by the Ukrainian leader and French President Emmanuel Macron, who, in turn, at a joint press conference following talks with the Ukrainian side, said he hoped to end the conflict in Ukraine by 2027.
