Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has signed a law banning the use of gender-neutral words when drafting official documents. This was reported by CNN Brasil on Tuesday, November 18.

Prior to the adoption of this law, some official documents and written appeals used the forms todes or todxs instead of the traditional pronoun todos ("everything"), which also denotes the masculine form in the plural. These changes were used to appeal to people who did not want to identify with one of the two traditional genders.

Now, according to the new law, public authorities are required to use only standard forms of the Portuguese language, avoiding gender-neutral expressions in official documentation.

In February of this year, it became known that The Walt Disney Company is reviewing its diversity, equity, and inclusion — DEI policy. It clarifies that it says that the company has decided to change the relevant policy and reduce the number of programs in order to focus more on the commercial results of the business.
