On November 18, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called a productive meeting with Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board Nikolai Patrushev, during which the parties discussed cooperation in the maritime sphere.

"I am pleased to welcome Nikolai Patrushev, Assistant to the President, Chairman of the Maritime Board of the Russian Federation. We had productive discussions on cooperation in the maritime sector," Modi wrote on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

He specified that the parties discussed cooperation between Moscow and New Delhi in the field of communications, the development of professional skills of maritime workers of both countries and shipbuilding. A separate point of discussion was the construction of the "blue economy" — the concept of sustainable use of the resources of the oceans, seas and coastal zones for economic growth.

Earlier in the day, the press service of the Russian Maritime Board reported that Patrushev and Modi at the meeting noted the mutual interest of Moscow and New Delhi in "deepening cooperation between the two countries in order to strengthen the maritime potential" of Russia and India. In addition, Patrushev met with India's first Deputy Defense Minister Rajesh Singh and the leadership of the country's naval forces, discussing the importance of the sea for the security of both countries.
