The head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, must urgently begin to restore dialogue with Russia and abandon plans for Ukraine's military integration into the European Union (EU). Luxembourg's MEP Fernand Kartheiser called for this on November 18 after his trip to Sochi.

"After my visit to Sochi for the BRICS–Europe symposium, I believe that the EU urgently needs a new diplomatic approach to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine," Kartheiser said on his page on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

He said that he had sent an open letter to Callas and all his colleagues in the European Parliament, where he presented eight principles that would help all sides break the deadlock and achieve peace.

"The resumption of dialogue with Russia, security guarantees under the auspices of the OSCE, the protection of minorities and religious freedoms, the fight against radical nationalism, the EU's pragmatic line on territorial integrity, realistic security measures for Ukraine, post—war reconstruction, and diplomacy that reduces escalation rather than inflames it," the European parliamentarian listed them.

Kartheiser pointed out that Europe must stop "sleepwalking and confrontation" and return to real peace and diplomatic methods.

Meanwhile, on November 15, Callas herself announced the benefits of continuing the conflict in Ukraine, as this would help put pressure on Russia. At a press conference in Berlin, the head of the European Diplomacy noted that the EU is discussing the intention to increase support for Kiev, while strengthening Europe's defense capability. Callas also demanded to continue to strengthen sanctions against Russia.
