- The indologist assessed the relations between Moscow and New Delhi against the background of US pressure
Alexey Kupriyanov, head of the Center for the Indian Ocean Region of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told Izvestia that relations between Russia and India are developing steadily.
"The trade turnover is more than $70 billion, and India, in fact, plays the role of a transit country for Russian oil going from there to Western countries. The only problem is the trade imbalance, which is correcting too slowly," the expert explained.
According to him, everything is fine in political terms, the parties have resumed the practice of annual meetings at the highest level, and dialogue is actively developing through all channels.
"US President Donald Trump was able to rather push India towards Russia and China; his instability and unpredictability frap Indians, who only further strengthen their commitment to strategic autonomy and seek to diversify their foreign policy," the expert concluded.
Russian Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow is currently actively preparing for Russian Leader Vladimir Putin's visit to New Delhi in early December this year.
The parties plan to discuss the expansion of industrial cooperation between the two countries and the expansion of Indian machinery and technical products to the Russian market, Russia's increased purchases of Indian food and pharmaceutical products, a mutual increase in the flow of tourists, as well as an increase in labor imports from India.
Details of Putin's upcoming visit to India in December are available in the Izvestia article:
