The Tyumen animal shelter has been quarantined due to an outbreak of plague
The quarantine for the plague of carnivorous animals began to operate on November 17 in a shelter for orphaned animals in Tyumen, it will be lifted 30 days after the last case of infection or death of an animal due to the plague. The corresponding order was signed by Roman Zverev, Acting Head of the Tyumen Region Veterinary Department.
"To establish restrictive measures (quarantine) for plague of carnivorous animals on the territory of the shelter from November 17, 2025 <...> until a decision is made to cancel them 30 days after the recovery or slaughter of the last sick susceptible animal," the document says.
During the period of restrictions, quarantine measures will be in effect, in particular, a ban on unauthorized persons visiting the territory, as well as on the entry and importation of plague-susceptible carnivorous animals into the shelter.
Earlier, on November 13, it was reported that specialists of the Vector State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology had discovered more than 60 previously unknown viruses within the framework of the Virom Russia project, having studied samples from 50 regions of Russia. They plan to investigate the evolutionary potential of the detected viruses and assess the likelihood of strains with pandemic properties.
