- A Russian citizen living in the consulate in Australia complained about the restrictions
Russian Semyon Boikov, known by the nickname Aussie Cossack, who lives at the Russian consulate in Australia, complained that he was being restricted in everything. He stated this in an interview with ABC News on November 18.
Boikov complained that he was "locked" in his room, he was not allowed to move around the consulate building without security. In addition, he cannot baptize his son in the building of the diplomatic mission.
"They said: "You can't baptize a child at the consulate." I asked: "Why is that?" And then he said, "We'll find a priest. The priest will come, and we will baptize the baby." But they said they wouldn't let him in," the man said.
Boikov has been living in the Russian consulate in Sydney since 2022, when he was accused of assaulting a pensioner at a rally in support of Ukraine.
On the same day, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that Russia would carefully study the decision of the Australian court, which did not retain the right to a plot of land for the construction of a new building of the Russian Embassy in Canberra in 2023. The ministry stressed that it can already be argued that this court decision definitely does not work "into the hands of the Australian government," since earlier the Australian authorities had unsubstantiated claims that their actions were motivated by "national security considerations."
