Reuters announced the desire of the American company Chevron to buy shares of Lukoil

The American oil company Chevron is exploring the possibility of acquiring the foreign assets of the Russian company Lukoil, which is under sanctions. This was reported on November 17 by the Reuters news agency, citing five knowledgeable sources.

"Chevron will join <...> firms in the race for Lukoil's portfolio worth at least $20 billion," the article says.

According to sources, Chevron is considering the possibility of acquiring Lukoil's assets in regions where the companies' interests overlap, rather than the entire portfolio. Last week, the US Treasury Department gave permission to potential buyers to negotiate with Lukoil on foreign assets.

The agency clarifies that Lukoil's international assets, which include three oil refineries in Europe, gas stations around the world and shares in fields in Kazakhstan, Iraq and other countries, are estimated at about $22 billion.

On October 30, the press service of Lukoil announced the approval of a deal to sell 100% of the international company LUKOIL International GmbH Gunvor. It was noted that its final implementation required the approval of the Office of Foreign Assets Control of the U.S. Treasury (OFAC), as well as other licenses and permits from the authorities of other countries where the company operates. Later, on November 7, the company withdrew its offer to purchase Lukoil's assets.

On November 14, Lukoil's website reported that negotiations on the sale of international assets were underway with several potential buyers. The Company is also in regular interaction with the authorities in the regions of its operations. On November 17, it was reported that Iraq was ruling out the possibility of buying Lukoil's assets.
