- 2 million schoolchildren learned about the technologies of the video platform at the "Lesson of numbers" from VK
VK's "Lesson in Numbers" on the topic of "Video Platform" brought together 2 million students in grades 1-11 from all over the country. Thanks to the project, students learned how a modern video storage and distribution service works using the example of the largest Russian VK Video platform.
As part of the project, open lessons were held across the country. VK experts, representatives of ministries and executive authorities in the field of education and digitalization told students about video platform technologies and IT specialists who develop them: developers, machine learning engineers, information security specialists, testers, analysts, copywriters and designers.
The most active regions in terms of the number of passes over three weeks were the Belgorod Region, the Chechen Republic, the Orenburg Region, the Republic of Karelia, the Omsk Region, the Sverdlovsk Region, the Kherson Region, the Magadan Region, the Novgorod Region, the Chelyabinsk Region, the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug, and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
The lesson from VK allowed the students to become part of the VK Video product team. Under the guidance of the mascots of the platform, the guys solved the tasks of infrastructure development, video service design and adaptation of solutions to the interests and needs of the audience. The participants got acquainted with the technologies that ensure stable operation of the service and high video download speeds, as well as learned how to work with interfaces and make content attractive to users. Materials and simulators of the lesson from VK will be available to everyone at the link: lesson numbers.Russian Federation/video.
"The Russian Ministry of Education pays great attention to early career guidance for schoolchildren, because this is the key to a successful future. The Lesson in Numbers, conducted by VK, introduced millions of schoolchildren across the country to the device of the largest domestic video platform that they encounter every day. The guys learned more about the digital professionals who are behind the creation of such services. The interactive format of the project clearly shows the diversity of professions in IT and is an additional effective tool for teachers to interest children and teenagers in the promising field of technology," comments Andrey Gorobets, Director of the Department of Digital Transformation and Priority Projects.
"VK is developing one of the largest career guidance programs, helping students to consciously choose their future profession in IT. The Lesson of Numbers is one such initiative. It allows students to learn about digital professions and try their hand at solving practical problems. This year, using VK Videos as an example, millions of schoolchildren saw how a complex video service is created and operated. Having become familiar with the platform as different specialists, they will be able to continue interacting with it — already by watching a wide variety of educational and entertaining content," said Anna Stepanova, VK's Deputy Vice President for Educational Projects.
"The second lesson of this academic year was prepared by VK, one of the most recognizable digital brands in the country. Immersing schoolchildren in the world of video content production in computer science lessons becomes a window into a new universe of possibilities, allowing students to unleash their creativity, master in-demand technologies and take a confident step towards the future of the profession. The students were able to learn how content storage and distribution services work on the video platform, as well as try themselves as an analyst, designer, tester or ML engineer - those who improve digital services for millions of users every day. With the help of such lessons, students get acquainted with the world of IT professions and can choose the most interesting specialty for themselves and continue to study digital technologies," said Yulia Goryachkina, Director of Personnel for the Digital Economy at ANO Digital Economy.
