"Mold spores and bacteria get into them from the air. Once in a favorable humid environment, they begin to actively develop. During the vital activity of mold fungi, mycotoxins that are dangerous to humans accumulate in the product, which are not destroyed when exposed to high temperatures," the expert explained.

She noted that often impurities are added to ground spices to increase weight and color, which also increases the risk of allergic reactions.

"The safest option for health is spices in sealed factory packaging from trusted manufacturers. Such a product is protected from external contamination, the shelf life, composition and manufacturer information are indicated on the packaging. If buying by weight is unavoidable, pay attention to the appearance of the place of sale," Zolotareva concluded.
