The doctor called for flu and pneumococcal vaccinations.
Andrey Osipov, Chief Physician of Domodedovo Central Hospital, called on Thursday, November 13, to get vaccinated against influenza and pneumococcus to protect against severe forms of pneumonia.
"Flu vaccination should be done annually. It takes two weeks for the immune system to form. And when people get sick after vaccination, it means that the immune system has not yet been formed," he said in an interview with Radio 1.
According to the expert, the composition of the flu vaccine is updated annually, taking into account the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and monitoring by Rospotrebnadzor, to ensure protection against current strains of the virus. He added that vaccination against pneumococcal infection, which often causes the most severe forms of pneumonia, is also very important. Different age groups have their own vaccination schedule.
"Pneumococcus is the pathogen that causes the most severe forms of pneumonia. It is vaccinated according to a certain pattern: it begins in childhood, and in the elderly — twice with an interval of five years," the doctor explained.
Osipov called for vaccination, noting that this simple and reliable means of protection can protect against hospitalization and serious health consequences.
