In recent years, there has been a consistent decrease in alcohol consumption in Russia. This was announced to Izvestia on November 13 by Tatiana Klimenko, director of the National Scientific Center for Narcology, a branch of the V. P. Serbsky National Research Center of Psychiatry and Narcology of the Russian Ministry of Health.

"For the last 15-20 years, systematic preventive work has been carried out in the Russian Federation aimed at reducing alcohol consumption by the population of the country. According to the results of this work, over the past 15 years, there has been a consistent decrease in alcohol consumption and sales," she said.

According to her, the drug-related morbidity caused by alcohol consumption has also decreased in the country. Klimenko noted that the reduction in sales of alcoholic beverages is not due to rising prices, but due to a change in the behavior of citizens. She stressed that a significant part of the population, primarily young people, refuses to drink alcohol, focusing on a healthy lifestyle and striving for social success.

She also stressed that the decline in alcohol sales should be considered as an objective indicator of the nation's recovery.

On October 28, it was reported that beer sales in Russia in the first three quarters of 2025 decreased by 16.9% compared to the same period last year. It was noted that during the period from January to September of this year, 462.3 million barrels of beer were sold in Russia, which is 16.9% less than 556.5 million barrels in the same period last year.
