Finland is ready to resume traffic on the border with Russia if it opens, but not at all checkpoints. This was reported on November 13 by the Yle television company, citing a statement by the head of the border security unit, Jussi Napola.

According to him, the decision on the number of checkpoints to be opened will depend on the expected volume of traffic between the countries.

"We would estimate the volume of traffic and based on this we would consider how many crossing points to open," he said.

According to Napola, before the border was closed, traffic was only 18%. At the same time, at the moment, according to the Finnish side, the flow would be even lower due to sanctions and visa restrictions.

On September 18, Sergei Ivanov, a permanent member of the Security Council and Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport, said that Finland had suffered significantly from the severance of ties with Russia, and the country's economy was also collapsing.

On April 16, the Finnish government decided to keep the border with Russia closed until further notice. It was clarified that the decree on the indefinite extension of the border closure has been in effect for about a year, while the new document replaced a similar decision dated April 4, 2024.
