- The State Duma called the main obstacle to the resumption of negotiations with Ukraine
The main obstacle to negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul is the position of European states that are not ready for dialogue with Russia. This was stated by State Duma Deputy Dmitry Novikov on Wednesday, November 12.
"This is the most aggressive, Russophobic line, which finds expression in a variety of shades. Starting from information policy and ending with military strategy," he said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .
According to the parliamentarian, the EU countries are not interested in resuming negotiations, since in order for them to proceed to signing agreements, it will be necessary to take into account Russia's position and enter into a full-fledged dialogue.
"People who are going to return even Crimea are clearly not ready for such a dialogue. And if Zelensky's position [Vladimir, President of Ukraine] can still be adjusted due to objective realities, then his partners from Brussels, London, Paris and Berlin are unable to do this," Novikov concluded.
Earlier in the day, the head of the second CIS department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexei Polishchuk, said that the Russian side was ready to resume the negotiation process with the Ukrainian delegation in Istanbul, RT reports.
According to him, the Russian proposal to create three working groups of the Istanbul process remains unanswered by the Ukrainian side, according to the website. kp.ru .
On November 11, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that a settlement of the conflict in Ukraine is possible only if a number of fundamental conditions are met, including denazification, demilitarization and protection of the rights of the Russian-speaking population, Moscow 24 writes.
In September, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Ankara's intention to promote the Istanbul negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict with a focus on results. Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, also stated Russia's readiness to continue dialogue with Ukraine in any negotiation formats. According to him, Istanbul is the most acceptable negotiating platform for Moscow and Kiev.
