The Italian political movement "People of Veneto", led by former MP Vito Comencini, has filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office over the cancellation of the participation of Russian opera singer Ildar Abdrazakov in the production of the opera "Don Giovanni" on the stage of the Philharmonic Theater of Verona. This was announced by Comencini himself on November 12.

"We have filed a complaint because we believe that law enforcement and judicial authorities should investigate such cases of obvious discrimination, if not harassment," he said in an interview with TASS.

According to Comencini, the decision of the Arena di Verona management was made under pressure from the Italian Ministry of Culture and a number of politicians. The document sent to the Prosecutor's Office contains references to articles of Italian law concerning racial and religious discrimination, as well as censorship.

On November 7, the Russian Embassy in Italy expressed support for Abdrazakov after his participation in the production was canceled. It was clarified that no sane person could agree with the accusations against the singer, according to which his performance of the part is allegedly an instrument of "Kremlin propaganda."

On November 6, it became known about the cancellation of Abdrazakov's concert in Italy. The cultural institution declined to comment on the incident. According to Italian political scientist Lorenzo Pacini, the cancellation of the participation of the Russian opera singer in the production of the opera "Don Juan" is another deliberate step in the manifestation of Russophobia.
