- A photo exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Maya Plisetskaya opened on Strastnoy Boulevard.
100 years ago, on November 20, 1925, Maya, the greatest ballerina of the XX century, was born in Moscow, whose creative path was predetermined by her birth in the famous Messerer-Plisetsky theatrical dynasty. On the occasion of the legendary ballerina's birthday, a unique photo exhibition "The Great Maya" will open on Strastnoy Boulevard, dedicated to the life and work of one of the brightest stars of the world ballet. The exhibition will include about 50 rare archival photographs spanning several decades of the prima ballerina's illustrious career.
The exhibition stands feature highlights from iconic productions and numerous rehearsals. The footage reveals the personality of Maya Plisetskaya – not only as a dancer, but as a bright, thinking, great woman. The audience will see Plisetskaya in the images of the Firebird from Igor Stravinsky's ballet of the same name (1964), Zarema from Boris Asafyev's ballet Bakhchisarai Fountain (1948), the bird-girl Siuimbike from Farid Yarullin's ballet Shurale (1955), the Tsar-maiden from Rodion Shchedrin's ballet The Hunchback Horse (1968), Carmen from the ballet Carmen Suite (1967), Isadora from the Monobalete by Maurice Bejar (1976) and many other productions that have become classics of world art. Viewers will also be able to see footage from films starring Maya Plisetskaya.
The Great Maya photo exhibition is not just a chronicle of a ballet career, it is a story about a man who changed the perception of plastic possibilities in classical dance. This is a dedication to the great ballerina of her century and subsequent times.
The exhibition will be interesting for both young viewers and adults – ballet professionals, admirers of Plisetskaya's genius and those who are just discovering her greatness.
