India's two state-owned refineries, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL), have purchased 5 million barrels of crude oil from the United States and the Middle East. This was reported on November 10 by the Reuters news agency, citing sources.
For example, HPCL purchased oil from West Texas Intermediate (USA) and Murban (Abu Dhabi). Each of them is expected to deliver 2 million barrels in January. MRPL has bought 1 million barrels of Basra Medium oil in Iraq. Deliveries are scheduled to take place from January 1 to January 7.
The Agency reports that oil refineries India is considering alternatives to fuel supplies from Russia. Both companies decided to suspend purchases of Russian oil due to sanctions risks.
On November 6, US President Donald Trump announced that India had allegedly significantly reduced its purchases of Russian oil, having practically stopped purchasing it. The politician noted that the negotiations between Washington and New Delhi are going well, adding that next year he plans to visit India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On October 23, White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt already announced an alleged reduction in oil purchases from Russia by Indian refineries. According to her, this decision was made by them at the request of Trump. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on October 28 that oil from Russia is of strategic importance to many countries.
