Owners of Chinese cars in Russia often contact car service stations with complaints about the operation of various electronic systems — sensors, multimedia units, sunroof drives and windows. They often fail or do not work correctly, such problems are more often observed in the cold season, said Evgeny Evteev, director of the Fit Service car service and child care center.

"The next common problem is paintwork and rapid corrosion. For some models, the body quickly becomes corroded and chipped, even with low mileage. The problem may differ markedly within the same series, all because of the difference in performance and metal quality," Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted Evteev as saying on November 20.

The expert drew attention to the fact that owners of Chinese cars also contact the services regarding the all-wheel drive system and transmission. He gave an example of a situation where the same model (of different years or even months of production) had different clutches or types of gearboxes. It may turn out that sometimes the software is not adapted to the new node, which leads to incorrect operation. Suspension details may also differ on the same models.

According to Evteev, Chinese cars may require more frequent maintenance of individual components compared to models of Japanese, Korean and European brands, but the cost of spare parts is often lower. However, in terms of reliability of engines and gearboxes, as well as overall safety (based on the results of tests), new Chinese cars are quickly catching up to average market standards, he added.

Earlier, on November 7, it was reported that sales of new Chinese cars in Russia in January – October of this year amounted to 569.9 thousand units. This is 27.3% less than in the same period of 2024. Haval became the leader in terms of sales in the brand rating, followed by Chery and Geely.

Before that, on October 6, experts reported that the most expensive Chinese cars to repair in Russia are the FAW, JAC and Tank models. They named the cars of the brands Chery and Exeed, Kaiyi and Lifan as the most economical in maintenance.
