What a celebration
The Day of the Holy Martyr Seraphim was established in memory of his martyrdom. The archbishop was shot in 1937 during the mass persecution of the church. During his lifetime, he was distinguished by his special dedication to service, and took care of educating young people in the spirit of faith and charity. This day is considered by the people to be a time of spiritual purification, prayer and gratitude for the power of the holy spirit.
What is the day dedicated to?
The holiday reminds believers of the importance of perseverance in faith and willingness to follow Christian commandments even in difficult times. Prayers on this day are addressed to St. Seraphim with requests for protection from temptations, strengthening of the spirit and help in matters related to the upbringing of children and the preservation of the family.
How to celebrate
Believers traditionally visit the church, where the liturgy and prayer service to St. Seraphim are celebrated. It is customary to confess, receive communion, and pray for their loved ones. Candles are lit in the houses, the saint's life is read and they try to spend the day in silence, without arguments and fuss. It is believed that sincere prayers are especially heard on this day.
