In Syria, two assassination attempts on the President of the republic for the transitional period, Ahmad al-Sharaa, were prevented, which were prepared by the Islamic State (IS, the organization is banned in the territory of the Russian Federation). This was reported on November 10 by the Reuters news agency, citing unnamed officials from the Middle East.

"Syria has foiled two separate plots by the Islamic State to assassinate President Ahmad al-Sharaa," the publication says.

According to the agency, both operations were carried out in recent months, and one of the attacks could have occurred at a pre-announced official engagement event in which al-Sharaa was supposed to participate.

It is noted that information about the plots appeared at the moment when al-Sharaa arrived in the United States, where he planned to sign an agreement on Syria's accession to the United States-led international coalition against ISIS.

The article also emphasizes that possible assassination attempts have only reinforced the leader's plans to join this coalition to fight the militant group.

On the same day, the SANA news agency reported that al-Sharaa had arrived in the United States on an official visit. Prior to that, on November 1, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reported that the interim Syrian leader would visit Washington to meet with the head of the White House, Donald Trump. According to the journalist, this visit to the United States will be the first for al-Sharaa.

In addition, sanctions were lifted from the President of this republic by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), the United Kingdom and the United States.
