- The Belarusian Foreign Ministry announced Lithuania's attempts to blame Minsk for the situation on the border.
Lithuania is trying to mislead its carriers by blaming Minsk for the border situation. This was announced on November 8 by the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
"We would like to remind you that Belarus has not forbidden anything to anyone. There is a border and a set order for crossing it. Currently, the border is closed by the decision of the Lithuanian side, and it is the Lithuanian side that is responsible for its cancellation," BelTA news agency quoted the agency as saying.
The ministry added that when Lithuania opens the border, all trucks will be able to return home on a first-come, first-served basis.
Earlier in the day, Lithuanian Prime Minister's adviser Ignas Dobrovolskas said that Vilnius intends to seek compensation from Minsk for Lithuanian carriers whose trucks are blocked on the territory of Belarus after the border with Lithuania was closed. According to him, carriers need to collect information about losses, which, after assessing the legal possibilities, can be recovered from Belarus.
On October 29, Lithuania completely closed the border with Belarus for a month. According to a government decree, the last two checkpoints, Myadininkai and Shalchininkai, have been shut down. Exceptions are made only for diplomats, transit traffic to Kaliningrad, as well as citizens of Lithuania and EU countries.
