Russia will launch cooperation with Algeria in the field of waste management: the Algerian side expressed its readiness for direct contacts with Russian organizations involved in waste collection, transportation and recycling in order to promote joint initiatives and technology exchange. This was reported to Izvestia on November 7 by the Russian Environmental Operator (REO) following a working meeting between the operator and representatives of the Algerian Embassy in Russia.

"Russia has extensive practical experience in creating a modern waste management infrastructure and implementing the principles of a closed-loop economy. We are ready to share our best practices and promote the development of international partnerships aimed at improving environmental efficiency and sustainable development," the REO noted.

The parties discussed the prospects for the exchange of technologies and experience, as well as the possibility of organizing bilateral visits and working meetings with relevant departments and companies of both countries.

On September 19, it was reported that Russia was preparing to strengthen supervision of landfills and could legislate the use of unmanned aircraft systems, airborne laser scanning, aerial photography and thermal imaging to check such facilities. After the adoption of the document, the new rules will enter into force on September 1, 2026.
