Sappers and attack aircraft began to be trained in the SVO zone. They are trained not only in clearing the area of dangerous objects, but also in explosives, setting up minefields, including remotely. Small assault groups are increasingly operating in isolation from the main forces, and a fighter with good knowledge of sappers is a necessary reinforcement for them. These are the people who will almost always go ahead of the main assault group, paving the way, military experts say.

They go first

In the units operating in the area of the special military operation, the training of ground-attack sappers has begun. Classes are held in field schools. The fighters study different types of mines and explosive objects, learn how to carry out explosive work, mine clearance and installation of minefields, including remotely using drones and specially trained mortars, sources told Izvestia in the Russian Defense Ministry.

One cannot do without sappers during assault operations, especially in buildings, a Marine veteran, Hero of Russia, Lieutenant General Andrei Gushchin told Izvestia.

—It is important and necessary to have sappers in assault groups," he said. — The sapper must pave the way for the stormtroopers. He is able to quickly apply the necessary charge to break through passages in walls or clear debris. If necessary, it mines approaches to enemy positions. In modern conditions, the army needs as many people trained in this way as possible.

When storming fortified areas, our troops have to face a large number of pre-prepared firing points, Colonel Valery Yuryev, chairman of the Union of Paratroopers of Russia, told Izvestia.

"There are many powerful shelters built using reinforced concrete, especially in urban areas," he said. — They form the backbone of the defense, and their destruction is one of the top priorities. Large-caliber small arms and grenade launchers are often powerless in such cases. Engineering, i.e. high-power, ammunition is used to destroy such fortifications. We are now seeing houses and basements being stormed with TM-62 anti-tank mines. Their charge is enough to bury the defending enemy under the rubble. But still, it is better to use special charges and, when using them, use trained fighters who know how to use such ammunition as efficiently as possible and without unnecessary risk to their lives.

In the same place, they will have to defuse enemy minefields before attacking, making passages for other fighters of the group, and when anchored in captured facilities, they will have to mine dangerous areas, he noted.

— These are the people who will almost always go ahead of the main assault group, paving the way, — explained Valery Yuryev.

Experts noted that the assault groups are small now. In addition, they are increasingly operating in isolation from the main forces, and it is often not possible to quickly get the help of sappers due to the dominance of drones in the sky. In such a situation, an attack fighter with a good knowledge of sappers will be worth his weight in gold.

A new approach

The nature of the fighting during the CBO affects the tactics of using certain equipment and units. Izvestia wrote that the tank crews had begun to practice a new tactic called "fire attack." When used, tanks operate in pairs. One of them works from a closed firing position, while the other moves towards enemy fortifications to fire direct fire.

The leading tank hits the enemy on the move, and after firing a few shots, it quickly pulls back. At the same time, after a short period of time, he returns to the neutral zone from the other direction and continues his work. Such actions require good preparation. When planning an attack, tankers need to take into account weather conditions, terrain, and the nature of the ground.

Such tactics are most effective in solving combat missions to destroy enemy strongholds and advancing assault units.

In addition, calculations of heavy flame-throwing systems (TOC) began to use new tactics, in which combat vehicles of different modifications work together. At the same time, each flamethrower system is designed to solve its own combat mission.

The Solntsepek creates a frontal shaft of fire, and the more mobile TOSS-2 Tosochka on a wheeled chassis precisely destroys targets located in the enemy's immediate rear.

Heavy flamethrower systems are well suited for destroying fortifications. Even powerful reinforced concrete shelters do not save from the main damaging factors of thermobaric TOC projectiles — high temperature, shock wave and sudden pressure drop.
