The media reported on the EU's intention to tighten the issuance of visas to Russians
The European Union (EU) is going to tighten the conditions for issuing Schengen multivisa visas to Russians this week. This was reported on November 5 by the Politico newspaper, citing its own sources.
The new, stricter rules, which are part of a package of measures aimed at reducing the number of Russians entering the bloc's countries, are expected to be officially adopted and come into force this week.
It is noted that now Russians will receive single-entry visas in most cases. An exception may be if a person has EU citizenship or humanitarian considerations. In addition, according to the publication, the issuance of visas will remain a national competence, and the European Commission (EC) will not be able to impose a complete ban on entry for tourists from the Russian Federation.
On November 5, the German Embassy in Russia announced that in order to enter Germany, Russian citizens will need to have a biometric passport from January 1, 2026. In this case, the exception will be the old-style passports, which already have a valid German visa.
