American officials who were put on forced leave due to the shutdown may be deprived of promised compensation and salaries. This was reported on November 4 by The Washington Post (WP) newspaper with reference to messages from the administration of US President Donald Trump sent to some government departments.

"The Trump administration is sending notifications to federal employees, assuming that only those who work during the government shutdown will receive payment when it ends," the publication says.

It is clarified that American civil servants received only two notifications. The first one stated that employees sent on vacation would receive salaries, while the second one did not provide such a guarantee. The publication noted that this is contrary to American law.

Earlier in the day, Trump announced that American citizens would begin receiving food stamps under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) only after the shutdown was completed.

Before that, on November 1, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported that over 40 million low-income Americans are suffering from delays in government food aid due to the suspension of the US government more than a month ago.
