The exhibition "The Great Victory. Russia is My Story", where the authentic Victory Banner was presented. Russian President Vladimir Putin is planning to visit the exposition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War as part of the celebrations. Izvestia correspondent Anton Zolotnitsky talked with the organizers of the exhibition.

The exhibition on historical memory includes more than 700 exhibits, including archival documents, rare museum artifacts, paintings, and multimedia materials. The main rarity of the exhibition is the authentic Victory Banner, which was over the Reichstag in May 1945.

Another central exhibit was a sword in a scabbard, a gift from King George VI of Great Britain to the citizens of Stalingrad, symbolizing the courage of the defenders of the city. According to Denis Kuznetsov, the organizer of the exhibition, it was handed over to Joseph Stalin personally at the Tehran conference.

"This is an absolutely unique thing, it leaves the city of Volgograd very rarely," said the organizer.

In total, the preparation for the exhibition took more than a year and was initiated by the order of the president.

"The work brought together the Federal Archival Agency, the Ministry of Culture, the FSB, the Ministry of Defense and other departments. <...> This is the first time the exhibition has been presented in this composition. <...> The main rarity is the authentic Victory Banner, which was hoisted over the Reichstag in May 1945," he concluded.

On the same day, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin congratulated the residents of the capital and called the centuries-old traditions of national unity the solid foundation of modern Russia. According to him, National Unity Day "affirms the values of patriotism and selfless service to the Motherland."

The holiday was also celebrated in Vladivostok and Krasnoyarsk.
