OpenAI signs $38 billion deal with Amazon Web Services
OpenAI has signed a $38 billion agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS). This was reported on November 3 by the Bloomberg news agency.
According to the publication, under the seven-year contract, OpenAI will have access to hundreds of thousands of Nvidia GPUs hosted in AWS cloud centers.
Bloomberg notes that this deal was "another confirmation" that OpenAI has finally transformed from a research laboratory into one of the largest players in the artificial intelligence (AI) market. For Amazon, this contract is a demonstration of the company's capabilities in building and maintaining large—scale data centers.
"As OpenAI continues to push the boundaries of what is possible, AWS' advanced infrastructure will be the foundation for its AI ambitions," said AWS CEO Matt Garman.
In turn, Sam Altman, head of OpenAI, emphasized that the development of advanced AI technologies requires huge computing power.
"Our partnership with AWS strengthens the vast computing ecosystem that will drive a new era and make cutting—edge AI accessible to everyone," he added.
On October 28, the American Microsoft Corporation signed a long-term agreement with OpenAI. According to the document, Microsoft will receive a 27% stake in OpenAI Group PBC. This package is estimated at about $135 billion. The agreement also provides for the transformation of OpenAI's commercial division into a socially useful corporation and recapitalization.
