The administration of US President Donald Trump has begun detailed planning for a new mission to send American troops and intelligence officers to Mexico to fight drug cartels. This was reported on November 3 by NBC News, citing sources.

According to sources, the initial stages of preparation for a potential mission, which will include ground operations in Mexico, have already begun.

The interlocutors of the publication add that the American military personnel, many of whom are operatives of the joint special Operations Command, will act under the guidance of the US intelligence community, known as Title 50 status.

It is noted that this potential operation would run counter to the policy of the former administration of former US President Joe Biden, which secretly sent CIA officers, military and police officers to help the Mexican police, but did not participate in combat operations.

Sources specify that as part of the planned new mission, American troops in Mexico will mainly launch drone strikes against drug labs, members and cartel leaders.

The Wall Street Journal reported on October 31 that the United States intends to strike targets in Venezuela, which, according to Washington, are used for drug trafficking. It was noted that the potential air operation would focus on facilities located "in the zone of influence of drug cartels" and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

On October 29, the US armed forces destroyed a boat that, according to American intelligence, was allegedly used to transport drugs in the Pacific Ocean. As a result of the strike, four members of the ship's crew were eliminated, and the strike was carried out in order to curb illegal activities. The operation became part of a broader U.S. effort to combat international drug trafficking.

At the same time, on October 27, CNN reported that the US presidential administration held seven closed briefings for Congress on military strikes against suspected drug ships.

Meanwhile, Boris Martynov, professor of the MGIMO Department of International Relations and Foreign Policy, noted in a conversation with Izvestia on November 1 that, under the pretext of combating drug trafficking, the United States is trying to show Venezuela who is the boss in the house. He explained that in the event of a change in the political regime in Venezuela, the American oil industry would be the first to receive bonuses and privileges.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
