Former Belarusian opposition leader Roman Protasevich said he was not in touch with Russian citizen Sofia Sapega, with whom he was detained at the Minsk airport in May 2021. This was reported on November 1.

"No, I'm not [in contact with Sapieha]. Moreover, I do not know what she does or where she is. Unfortunately, I can't suggest anything," Protasevich said in an interview with a TASS correspondent.

He noted that he has no information about the current life of the Russian woman.

Earlier, on October 31, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced that Protasevich was an employee of the Belarusian intelligence service. According to the Belarusian leader, the journalist was undercover and was carrying out an official assignment. Lukashenko also stressed that the authorities had not planned to detain him, but after the incident Minsk was subjected to sanctions pressure from the West.
