On November 1, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin said that Russia maintains intensive contacts with Syrian representatives.

"We have had very intensive contacts with our Syrian colleagues recently. As you know, a regular session of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation was recently held here. This is an important event," TASS quoted him as saying.

The diplomat added that various issues were discussed at the commission meeting, including improving bilateral contacts "in all areas."

On October 15, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Syrian President for the transitional period Ahmed al-Sharaa in the Kremlin. During the meeting, the Syrian leader said for the transitional period that the Russian Federation would have a serious role in the development of a new Syria. He noted that the new authorities of the country intend to restart relations with Russia.

Later, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani said that currently there are no new agreements between Syria and the Russian Federation, the side sees the revision of previous agreements as the main point of the interstate dialogue. The diplomat also said that one of the points of negotiations is the Russian military bases in Syria.

Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, in turn, said on October 28 that the meeting of the leaders of Russia and Syria had contributed to the comprehensive development of relations between the military departments of the two countries.
