In conditions of constant information flow, the usual ways of recreation — vacations, walks or corporate events — cease to have a long-term effect. More and more people are looking for ways to maintain inner balance on a daily basis. Yoga is becoming one of the most effective tools. On November 7, the founder of Russia's first Sanskar Yoga Museum, Vishnu Sharan Shukla, told Izvestia about how the ancient practice helps to cope with stress and restore balance.

"Yoga is not just a set of physical postures (asanas), but a holistic discipline that brings the body, mind and spirit into a state of balance and peace. When we talk about overcoming stress, we need to understand that it arises not from situations, but from our reactions to them," the expert noted.

According to him, regular exercises in asanas, breathing practices (pranayama) and meditation help to consciously switch the nervous system from a state of anxiety to recovery mode. Shukla pays special attention to breathing techniques, such as Ujjayi pranayama, which helps to concentrate and reduce internal tension, and Bhramari pranayama, which improves sleep and reduces anxiety.

"Pranayama is performed with a soft hissing sound in the throat. While sitting with your back straight, relax. Inhale through your nose — inhale deeply and smoothly, narrowing your larynx so that the air passes through with a slight hiss. Exhale through the nose — while holding the same constriction of the larynx, exhale slowly with the same sound. Exhale should be smooth and even. At first, you can do 10-15 cycles," the specialist explained.

In addition, Shukla added that simple asanas such as Balasana (child's pose) or Shavasana (complete relaxation pose) help to relieve physical and emotional stress. And the practice of Surya Namaskar, a sequence of movements connecting the breath and the body, strengthens attention and increases endurance.

On October 24, it was reported that scientists had discovered a simple way to reduce stress and regain control of life. The key to reducing daily stress is a sense of control over the situation. People who felt more confident in their actions were 62% more likely to be able to solve everyday problems during the day.
