AvtoVAZ announced the status of the SKM brand project in Russia
Cars under the SKM brand, which AvtoVAZ announced back in the spring, are currently undergoing certification, and their production will begin upon completion of this process. Maxim Sokolov, the head of the car company, announced this on the sidelines of the Russian Industrialist forum, noting that the market is currently "not in favor" of launching new projects.
"The products are currently being certified. We confirm our readiness together with our partners, but we will, of course, release this product as soon as certification is ready, so that all regulatory and supervisory authorities, and, most importantly, we, as responsible manufacturers, are confident that it meets all requirements. But we will also look for the window when they place bonds or IPOs, looking for special moments when it is most profitable to do so. So we will look for this moment. Theoretically, it's even possible this year," Sokolov was quoted as saying by TASS on October 31.
AvtoVAZ announced the launch of a new Russian commercial vehicle brand SKM on March 16. Passenger and all-metal vans, as well as chassis with an open cargo platform, will be produced under this brand.
SKM cars will occupy a market niche between Lada Largus station wagons and larger commercial vehicles from other companies. The Tolyatti manufacturer stated that the model will meet the needs of private customers, representatives of small, medium and large businesses, as well as be distinguished by compact dimensions, modern technical equipment and ease of loading / unloading.
Earlier, on June 19, Dmitry Kostromin, AVTOVAZ's vice president for sales and Marketing, said that sales of passenger and cargo vans under the SKM brand are scheduled to begin in the fall of 2025.
