China urges the United States to comply with the agreement on non-nuclear testing
The People's Republic of China (PRC) has called on the United States to comply with its obligations under the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT), that is, a moratorium on nuclear testing. This was announced on October 30 by the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Guo Jiakun, at a press conference of the ministry.
"China hopes that the United States will faithfully comply with its obligations under the Comprehensive Nuclear—Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT)," he was quoted as saying on the official website of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
In addition, Jiakun called on the United States to take concrete steps to maintain nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation of nuclear weapons to ensure global balance and stability.
Earlier in the day, Trump said that the United States and Russia were negotiating on nuclear disarmament, adding that if successful, China could join the process. The American leader stressed that the process of denuclearization is important for global security, and if progress is made in this area, it can become the basis for further steps in relations with other world nuclear powers, including China.
The day before, Trump posted a statement on his Truth Social network, where he said that he had instructed the Pentagon to begin testing nuclear weapons "on an equal basis." According to the president, the process should begin "immediately." At the same time, earlier in the day, Trump refused to answer a question from reporters about the reasons for the start of weapons testing.
On October 30, a Kremlin official said that the United States had not notified Russia of its intentions to conduct nuclear tests.
