The Swiss Federal Council (government) has decided to join the additional measures of the 18th package of EU sanctions against Russia and Belarus. This was announced on October 29 on the official website of the government.

"The Federal Council has decided that Switzerland will take additional measures from the 18th package of EU sanctions against Russia, as well as additional EU measures against Belarus. <...> They will enter into force on October 30," the publication says.

Export restrictions now apply to additional goods, including fuel chemicals and some metals and plastics, the government added.

It is also noted that the Federal Council has decided to ban the import of refined petroleum products derived from Russian crude oil to third countries, with the exception of Canada, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States, in order to prevent the indirect entry of Russian oil into Switzerland.

The Swiss government focuses on measures in the areas of trade in goods, finance and energy, clarifies "Газета.Ru ".

Earlier, on October 10, Francoise Schantz, an official representative of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economics (SECO), told Izvestia that Switzerland would decide to join the 19th package of EU sanctions against Russia after weighing all foreign policy, trade and legal criteria. She noted that as a member of the United Nations, Switzerland is obliged, in accordance with international law, to apply sanctions imposed by the UN Security Council.

On October 23, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, announced that the EU had adopted the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. She noted that the restrictions are aimed, in particular, at Russian banks, cryptocurrency exchanges, organizations in India and China. At the same time, the European Union will restrict the movement of Russian diplomats.
