Bryce McFerran, nominated by American leader Donald Trump, withdrew his candidacy for the post of first vice president of the Export-Import Bank of the United States after it became known about his family ties with a Russian businessman. This was reported by The Washington Post on October 30.

"McFerran <...> has spent most of the last decade as a senior executive at the Swiss subsidiary of Evraz PLC, a Russian steel group," the publication says.

McFerran withdrew his candidacy on the eve of a Senate hearing scheduled for Thursday. This decision followed comments from a White House official in response to inquiries from The Washington Post regarding the candidate's ties to Russia.

Earlier, on October 12, it was reported that on the sidelines of the British government, they were considering the possible resignation of National Security Adviser to Prime Minister Keir Starmer Jonathan Powell. It was noted that, according to an unnamed minister, Powell's resignation would be discussed in the context of the proceedings on his potential interference in the sudden closure of the espionage case brought in 2023 against two Britons, Christopher Cash and Christopher Berry, who allegedly worked for China.
