The most dangerous sweets for teeth are lollipops. On October 31, Victoria Radko, an orthodontist and head of the orthodontic department at the EUROKAPPA Clinic Scientific and Clinical Center, told Izvestia about this.

According to the expert, it is these candies that cause the greatest damage to the enamel, provoke the development of caries, and with frequent use they can even affect the formation of bite in children.

"Lollipops are a sugar concentrate that stays in your mouth for a long time and literally "bathes" your teeth in a sweet environment. Unlike chocolate or marshmallows, which we eat quickly, the lollipop comes into contact with the enamel for 10-15 minutes. During this time, the acidity in the mouth drops sharply, and bacteria begin to actively multiply and destroy dental tissue," Radko explained.

According to her, the harm from lollipops is related not only to their composition, but also to habits. When a child often holds a lollipop in his mouth or bites a stick, an incorrect load is created on the jaw. If this is repeated regularly, the teeth may shift and eventually form an open bite.

At the same time, it is not necessary to completely abandon sweets. Radko advises choosing safer options.

"Now there are candies and chewable lozenges with xylitol, which is a natural sugar substitute. It does not cause tooth decay and even helps to neutralize acid in the mouth. Such sweets can be a good alternative to the usual ones," the doctor said.

The expert also reminded that after a sweet, it is useful to rinse your mouth with water or an unsweetened drink to reduce acidity and remove sugar residues.

In addition, it is better to eat dessert immediately after the main meal than to snack on it during the day. This way the teeth will be less susceptible to destruction.

According to the doctor, dental care does not begin with prohibitions, but with proper habits.

"You can indulge in sweets if you know the measure and choose products consciously. The main thing is to remember that prolonged contact of sugar with enamel is always harmful to teeth," Radko concluded.

Earlier, on October 27, nutritionist Mila Maslennikova spoke about such consequences as increased stress levels, decreased immunity and skin deterioration, while following a low-calorie diet. When losing weight, the specialist recommended reducing the amount of calories received by 4-20% of the consumption rate.
