In the modern world, various audio devices are increasingly being used, from portable speakers to headphones. However, few people think about how the volume and duration of listening to music can affect hearing. Ekaterina Subbotina, product director of the HYUNDAI household appliances and electronics brand, and Elena Avdienko, an otolaryngologist at the Scandinavian Health Center, told Izvestia on November 1 about the rules for using audio equipment.

According to the expert, prolonged exposure to high-volume sounds can lead not only to hearing loss, but also to increased stress levels, sleep disorders and concentration. Constant background noise overloads the nervous system and contributes to the development of headaches and fatigue.

"Improper use of audio devices can lead to irreversible consequences for hearing. According to research, exposure to sound above 85 decibels over a prolonged period of time can cause serious hearing damage that may no longer be repaired. The safe volume level is no more than 60 dB, which corresponds to a normal conversation," said the otolaryngologist.

However, according to experts, it is not always possible to track the correct use of audio systems, and it is important to understand that your hearing may be overloaded. Some signs indicate this. For example, if you notice the need to raise your voice when talking or encounter complaints of tinnitus, this may be an alarming signal. Also, stuffy ears and irritation from music or any other noise may indicate hearing problems. In some cases, listening to loud music may worsen the perception of quiet speech. If you notice such symptoms, it is recommended to turn down the volume or pause to let your ears rest.

When choosing audio equipment, it is important to consider not only functionality, but also safety.

"Give preference to models with clear and even sound. Harsh, distorted sound with excessive emphasis on high frequencies or bass can tire the ear and cause discomfort. For background listening to music at home, 10W acoustics are quite enough," said Subbotina.

In addition, Avdienko said that the soft surfaces in the room help reduce the overall noise level. It is important not to place the speaker close to the bed, especially during sleep. Loud music prevents you from falling asleep, so only a quiet sound at the level of 50-55 dB is allowed.

On October 7, Delovoy Peterburg reported that urban noise has long been an integral part of the lives of most residents of large megacities. However, the constant hum of cars, construction work, loud music and household appliances can not only irritate, but also have a serious impact on human health. Experts noted that noise protection in residential areas is an important step towards maintaining health and psychological comfort.
