A military expert assessed the capabilities of the Burevestnik against the Golden Dome missile defense system

The Russian Burevestnik missile will be able to bypass the US Golden Dome missile defense system due to the imperfections of American protection. Military expert Alexei Leonkov said this on Wednesday, October 29.

According to him, the "Golden Dome", which is going to be created, is an upgrade of the existing air defense and missile defense system of the United States.

"And it's positional. The missile defense system closes missile launch sites, and the air defense system is not even echeloned. There is a project for a layered system, its prototype has even been tested in Ukraine, but it takes trillions of dollars and much more time to create a full—fledged air defense system that is resistant to any impact," Leonkov said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

The expert noted that in the current conditions, the United States does not have the ability to develop a completely impenetrable system.

"We also do not forget that the Burevestnik is a strategic cruise missile equipped with a thermonuclear warhead. That is, the tactics of overcoming air defense can be different. One of the techniques is to detonate a charge in the air, which will disable the radar stations responsible for defense and clear the way for other missiles," the specialist said, adding that the Burevestnik will be used only after retaliatory strikes, meaning most of the systems will already be destroyed.
