Ukrainian law enforcement officers have charged Odessa Mayor Trukhanov.
Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov and two of his deputies have been charged with official negligence during the flooding in early October, which killed 10 people. This was reported on October 28 by the Ukrainska Pravda newspaper.
According to sources, charges have also been brought against seven of Trukhanov's subordinates. Verkhovna Rada deputy Artyom Dmytruk, who left Ukraine due to political persecution, said on the Telegram channel that the measure of restraint for the mayor would be chosen tomorrow — either house arrest or detention.
"According to the office's existing scheme, tomorrow he should be given a measure of restraint — either house arrest or detention," Dmytruk said.
Earlier it was reported that on October 14, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree depriving Trukhanov of Ukrainian citizenship. This measure also concerned ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleg Tsarev and dancer Sergei Polunin. The decision was related to the alleged existence of Russian citizenship for all three.
Against this background, Trukhanov expressed his intention to request citizenship data through the United States and is confident that they will not find a Russian passport in his possession. The former mayor of Odessa is facing deportation and confiscation of his business, the underground Odessa movement Stop Grave noted on October 18.
