The UN expert explained the blue coat color of dogs in Chernobyl
Igor Nikulin, a former member of the UN disarmament Commission, said that the bluish tint of the fur of dogs found in the Chernobyl nuclear power plant area could have appeared due to the influence of radiation or ill-treatment by the "superiors" who were there.
In conversation with aif.ru On Tuesday, October 28, he suggested that the animals could have received a large dose of radiation or eaten something at a radioactive dump.
However, he did not rule out the possibility that someone had simply painted the animals, noting that there were many "bounty hunters" hiding in the area with nothing to do.
Earlier on October 28, Alexander Kuksa, a master of ecology and Environmental Management, said in an interview with RT that the appearance of dogs with bright blue fur in the exclusion zone of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant was most likely due not to radiation, but to ordinary dye. As for the real effect of radiation on local animals, according to the ecologist, they have developed some immunity over many generations.
The day before, the Daily Mail newspaper wrote that three completely blue dogs were found in the vicinity of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Scientists have not yet determined the exact cause of the change in coat color. According to media reports, the animals are suspected of possible mutation and resistance to radiation, the website writes. kp.ru . Scientists analyzed the blood of 116 stray animals and identified two populations that are genetically different from dogs outside the zone. Life.ru . Despite the unusual color, the animals look active and healthy, IA Regnum reports.
In November last year, Spanish scientists found out that frogs in Chernobyl had become resistant to radiation, RIAMO notes. A study of more than 200 male tree frogs has shown that a high background does not affect their age and aging, notes 360.ru .
In 2023, scientists from the University of South Carolina and the National Human Genome Research Institute studied the DNA of 302 feral dogs from the exclusion zone and surrounding areas. The analysis showed noticeable genetic differences from dogs living just 10 miles from this territory.
