ERR announced the launch of a radar station by Estonia near the border with Russia
In Estonia, the construction of a radar station in the Ida-Virumaa county bordering the Russian Federation has been completed. This was announced on October 28 by the ERR broadcasting company.
The station is installed on the terricon of the former Viru mine and is designed to monitor the airspace of the eastern part of the country. Construction work is also continuing in the region, including the construction of a military facility in the village of Vasknarva. According to the statement of the head of the northeastern portfolio of RKIK Ando Voogma, facilities of a communications station and a radar station are being built there.
In addition, the Estonian Ministry of Defense plans to deploy a second radar installation on Hiiumaa Island, the construction of which is due to be completed next year.
The day before, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that the country was ready to shoot down air targets allegedly arriving from Russia in the event of a threat to the republic's security. The Minister also mentioned the incident with the alleged violation of Estonian airspace by Russia. Tsakhna said that in response to this, NATO aircraft were ready for action, and Estonia was ready to act immediately in the event of a threat to the national security and sovereignty of the country.
