The fully import-substituted MC-21 aircraft successfully made its first flight from the airfield of the Irkutsk Aviation Plant of the Yakovlev Company, part of the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) of the Rostec State Corporation. This was announced on October 28 by the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade.

During the test flight, the operation of domestic PD-14 systems and engines was checked.

"The aircraft will join the certification testing program along with the MC-21 prototype, partially equipped with new Russian systems and assemblies, which made its first flight in a new guise on April 29, 2025," the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Industry and Trade said.

Earlier, on October 17, the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov said that the fully import-substituted MC-21 is planned to take to the skies in October 2025. He noted that the aircraft is being tested and will be included in the flight inspection program. The MC-21 is designed to transport passengers and cargo over a distance of up to 5.1 thousand km and should become a replacement for the Tu-154 and Tu-204, as well as a competitor to foreign analogues.
