On October 27, Kazakh tennis player Alexander Bublik did not shake hands with athlete Alexey Popyrin, representing Australia, after winning the match of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Masters tournament in Paris.

The match ended with a score of 6:4, 6:3 in favor of Bublik. The victory allowed the Kazakhstani to advance further in the Masters tournament with a prize pool of $6.13 million.

Bublik himself in an interview with the portal "Championship.Ru" explained the act as a violation of tennis etiquette by the opponent. According to the athlete, the incident occurred after a key moment on the break point, when Popyrin did not apologize for the controversial situation.

"I think that any adequate person would have done the same in my place. <...> He (Popyrin. — Ed.) can celebrate and then apologize. I'm not the kind of person who would cling to that, but I'm sorry for that. There is a code, there is some kind of etiquette. If a person doesn't follow it, why should I follow another one?", — said Bublik.

He also clarified that he did not see any problem in his action.

Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva did not qualify for the Final tournament of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) on October 24, losing to the representative of Kazakhstan Elena Rybakina. She was Andreeva's main rival, earning 4,350 tournament points in 2025 and advancing to the semifinals in Tokyo.
