The fear of injections is one of the most common childhood anxieties, but there are effective methods to teach a child to tolerate medical procedures calmly. Artur Zagitov, CEO of the Komarik medtech company, told Izvestia about this on October 28.

According to him, the key point is not to ignore the child's feelings, but to help them overcome them through the formation of trust and understanding.

The specialist recommends avoiding devaluing phrases like "don't be afraid, it's nonsense," because the injection is a real test for the child.

"Instead, you should acknowledge the baby's feelings by saying: "I understand you might be scared because it's unpleasant. But you need to get an injection to keep you healthy." This approach helps to reduce anxiety and strengthens trusting relationships," the specialist noted.

An important aspect is honesty in preparing for the procedure. You should not deceive a child by claiming that there will be no pain, as this undermines trust and increases resistance in the future. It is better to explain that the injection resembles a mosquito bite, and the pain passes quickly. Modern technologies, such as needle-hiding syringes, also help reduce fear due to minimal pain and unusual design.

"Game techniques and role models demonstrate high effectiveness in overcoming fear. It is recommended to organize a doctor's game where the child gives an injection to toys, or show cartoons with positive examples of doctor visits," Zagitov advised.

Physical support during the procedure — holding hands, hugs — helps the child feel safer. After the injection, it is important to praise the baby, forming a positive experience of overcoming fear.

Zagitov warned that it is absolutely unacceptable to use an injection as a threat or punishment, as this creates persistent negative associations with medical procedures. Instead, you should create positive reinforcement through small rewards after a visit to the doctor.

Fear of injections is a natural reaction of the child's psyche, however, with the right approach from parents, the child can learn to calmly and confidently perceive the necessary medical manipulations.

Earlier, on September 19, Ekaterina Kashukh, an expert at the Hemotest laboratory and a gastroenterologist, told Izvestia what kind of food can be dangerous for a child under three years old. According to her, up to this age, vegetables, fruits, cereals, lean meat, fish and a small amount of vegetable and animal oils are gradually introduced into the diet of children. A child under three years old should not be given pickles, canned food, including homemade, sausage products, she noted.
