The forest will be cut down near villages in Transbaikalia to fight fires
Fire-fighting gaps will be created in Transbaikalia from the forest to all settlements. This is necessary for effective forest fire control. This was announced by Governor Alexander Osipov.
He called it "absolute madness" for the region to live almost in a forest or in a forest. According to him, coal and firewood are stored everywhere, humidity is less than 10%, the sun is already roasting in April. In addition, strong winds contribute to the rapid spread of fire, writes the ChitaMedia news agency.
The head of the region noted that the task was set in 2025, but its implementation is not going too fast. At best, only a third of the villages have gaps. In total, there are about 370 settlements in Transbaikalia, located in close proximity to the forest.
Earlier, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment stated that climate change has led to an increase in fire-prone areas in Russia. Against this background, the authorities have increased funding for the Krasnoyarsk Territory and Transbaikalia to fight fires.
