- Overchuk pointed to the common trade interests of Russia and ASEAN against the background of US duties
Russia and the ASEAN countries share common interests in the field of trade against the background of the duties imposed by the United States. This was announced to journalists on October 26 by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk.
"As you know, these duties have a very strong impact on the economies of the ASEAN countries, which have long been one of the most important beneficiaries of globalization processes," Overchuk said.
He also added that Washington's actions lead to the reformatting of supply chains and attempts to build new routes.
"These are the issues that interest the countries of the region, which are striving to build new integration ties in these new conditions and develop their system of free trade zone agreements. We have a lot of overlapping interests here," the Deputy Prime Minister stressed.
The Times newspaper reported on October 25 that the new duties of the American leader Donald Trump have strengthened relations between Russia and India. It was noted that due to the pressure of the US president, pro-Russian sentiments have intensified in India. According to Rajan Kumar, a professor at the School of International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, as long as Trump is in power, trust in the United States cannot be restored.
Prior to that, on October 24, Indian Minister of Trade and Industry Piyush Goyal said that Delhi would not conclude trade deals with the United States under external pressure. According to Goyal, when making decisions, India is guided by "long—term thinking" - the country is ready for a dialogue on trade with the United States without pressure by setting a time frame.
