The repeat offender from Krasnoyarsk committed 18 episodes of theft of cables and hatches

A man accused of a series of thefts of manholes and communication cables was sentenced in Krasnoyarsk. The criminal case was investigated for 18 episodes, the press service of the regional Interior Ministry reports.

The police have been reporting cases of theft since the fall of 2023. An unknown person cut the wires in the basements and technical rooms of apartment buildings. He tore the locks off the doors with the help of improvised means and entered the premises.

The man conducted criminal activity on the territory of the Central, Zheleznodorozhny and Oktyabrsky districts. When the attacker cut the cable, residents had problems with the phone and the Internet.

The suspect was caught red-handed at the end of January 2024. He turned out to be a resident of the regional center who had previously been convicted of property crimes. According to the Krasnoyarsk resident, he handed over the stolen goods to non-ferrous metals reception points, and spent the proceeds on personal needs.

The total damage from the actions of the defendant amounted to more than 580 thousand rubles, writes KrasnoyarskMedia news agency. The court sentenced him to four years in a high-security penal colony.
