Zakharova joked about a possible EU ban on birds flying to Russia
In the next package of sanctions, the European Union (EU) will probably ban bird flights and groundwater crossing the border. This was announced on October 23 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"We don't know how to live without European moss and lichens. Apparently, in the 20th anniversary package, migratory birds will be banned from transit and crossing the border with groundwater," Zakharova told TASS.
As part of the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions, EU countries, in particular, vetoed the export of foliage, tree branches, grasses, mosses and lichens to Russia.
Earlier in the day, the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, announced that the EU had adopted the 19th package of sanctions against Russia. She noted that the restrictions are aimed, in particular, at Russian banks, cryptocurrency exchanges, organizations in India and China. At the same time, the European Union will restrict the movement of Russian diplomats.
The Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the EU and Euratom, in turn, noted that the EU's adoption of the 19th package of anti-Russian sanctions is a Sisyphean task that is not capable of harming Russia. The message on the representative office's website also noted that the sanctions harm the EU countries themselves.
